of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad-380009, India.
Abstract :
In Gujarat, rhizomes of C.pangorei were
found to be used as a substitute for C.rotundus.
Comparative physicochemical evaluations
of C. pangorei and C.rotundus were carried
out. Anti-inflammatory activities of petroleum
ether extracts of these drugs were also
compared.

Abstract:
Preliminary studies had shown significant
anti-inflammatory activity in the aqueous
ectract of stem of strobilanthes heyneanus
method in the name of sahachara in Kerala.
The resent study was undertaken to elucidate
the probable mechanism of the observed anti-inflammatory
activity. The extract was screened in different
experimental models representing different
phases of inclammation. In addition effect
on certain biochemical parameters which
are relevent to the study was also recorded.
Date obtained during the study indicated
that the extract produces its effect by
modulating all the three phases of inflammation.
It inhibits fluid and cell exudation and
suppresses granulation tissue formation.
It enhances lysosomal membrane stabilization
and modulates hydroxyproline formation indicating
that it interferes with the formation of
connective tissue. It does not seems to
possess DMRAD effect.

DEVELOPMENT OF HERBAL
DRUGS / AYURVEDIC DRUGS BASED ON
ETHNOMEDICAL LEADS AND ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL
STUDIES
G. Sreekandan Nair
Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute,
Palode, Thiruvananthapuram - 695 562.
Abstract :
Many invaluble plant drugs could find a
place in these folk/tribal medical practices
of Kerala. Scientific studies on thses plants
could lead to the development of invaluable,
but inexpensive drugs for many diseases.
Studies carried out at TBGRI have identified
4 species as potential hepatoprotective
agents against chemical induced liver damage
in rats. Since trichopus zeylanicus has
adaptogenic properties, this plants has
been evaluated for its antihepatotoxic and
choleretic activities in rats.

PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNIQUE
RELATING TO Ksharasutra -
A Medicated Thread
Kulwant Singh
IPGT&RA , Gujarat Ayurved University,
Jamnagar GUJARAT.
Abstract :
Ksharasutra preparation has been described
in all the ancient books of Ayurveda as
caustic thread not only for the treatment
of sistula-in-ano but also those conditions
which demands gradual excision of overgrown
soft tissues. These essential factor to
permit a healthy healing pattern. In this
way Ksharasutra has wide application in
a number of surgical conditions which often
pose problems for the patient and also for
the surgeon. This has specific role in the
common ano-rectal conditions like piles,
fissure and fistula. Therefore, a detailed
write-up covering all the practical aspects
of Ksharasutra, particularly in ano-rectal
conditions is presented. The pharmaceutical
technique invoved in the preparation of
Ksharasutra together with its ingredients
is highlighted.
