Gujarat Ayurveda University is an academic and
institution of higher learning established in
1967 by an Act of Gujarat State Assembly. This
university is an autonomous organization fully
financed by Govt. of Gujarat State. University
looks after the management of the Institutes and
Colleges situated in the campus along with conducting
the examination of all the degree/diplomas awarded
by the University. This University has three wings.
1)
Administrative wing and the centers working directly
under University.
2) Constituent Institutes and Colleges working
in the campus.
3) Affiliated colleges of Ayurveda whose examinations
are conducted by the University.
To
support the teaching programmes University has following

2) Medicinal Plants Garden
3) Ayurvedic Pharmacy
4) Press & Publication
Central
Library -
The central library of the University is housed
in a building called Juwansinhji Museum. Library
has collection of more than 29000 books on various
subjects. This library caters to the need of the
students and also supplies the books to the various
departmental libraries. There are more than 1100
Post Graduate and Ph.D. theses, which are used
as reference material. This library has a large
collection of hand written manuscripts. Out of
the total 7340 manuscripts good number of them
are on Palm leaf or Bhojapatra. Library also subscribes
to various national and international journals
related to Ayurveda and other allied subjects.
Library has large collection of bound volumes
of Journals.
Medicinal Plants Garden -
The University Campus is in nearly 37 acres of
land. Out of this in nearly 10 acres of land there
are 20 small and big gardens maintained separately
by this department. These gardens have more than
150 medicinal plant species grown for teaching
and training of B.A.M.S., M.D. & M.Sc. (Med Plants)
students. Nearly 25 km away from the main campus
another garden spread over in 35 acres of land
is developed. This garden has more than 100 varieties
of medicinal plants.
This department
also maintains a nursery for cultivation of medicinal
plants. Free plant saplings are distributed to
the public. Under the management of this department
training programmes for Gardeners and Farmers
are also being organized. Farmer's co-operatives
are being formed for cultivation and preservation
of medicinal plants. Dept is planning to have
a training center for farmers for the identification,
cultivation and marketing of medicinal plants.
Ayurvedic Pharmacy -
Gujarat Ayurved University has a unique Ayurvedic
Pharmacy manufacturing the drugs for the use of
University Hospitals. This Pharmacy has the facility
for the preparation of medicines as per classical
formulations. This pharmacy also prepares the
medicines for the P.G. and Ph.D. scholars as per
the specifications required for their research
projects. It is also utilized for the teaching
and training of the students of M.D.(Ayu), B.Pharma,
M.Pharma & D.Pharma students.
On the basis of
the experiences of physicians and researches done
at Gujarat Ayurved University an Ayurvedic Medical
Kit of 30 drugs has been launched. These medicines
can be used by the common man at primary health
care level and also during the need of the hour.
This kit contains the formulation for the management
of common ailments like cold, cough, fever, vomiting,
diarrhoea etc. The formulations are also developed
for Anemia, Arthritis, Leucorrhoea, Piles, Asthma,
and Diabetes etc.
Press and Publication -
University has a press unit, which helps in printing
the various stationery required for administrative
and academic purposes. Under the publication scheme
University has published few Post Graduate Theses
and books written by experienced professors. List
of available publications is given separately.
University publishes
one research journal named "AYU". It is a
bilingual research journal, which publishes
important communications regarding the
researches being conducted at Gujarat Ayurved
University.
