Gujarat Ayurved University located in Jamnagar city, situated on the western part of Gujarat state is a unique and the only statutory University of its kind.  It offers advanced courses on all aspects of Ayurveda. Taking into consideration the rapid increase of world wide interest and demand for the plant based drugs in the last few decades, which has lead to large scale commercial production of both classical and proprietary herbal formulations in the country; it has introduced several courses designed in the context of the present situation. The offered courses cover different aspects of Ayurveda and allied traditional systems of medicine.

 Introduction of these multidisciplinary courses in the present times is considered most opportune, since the global demand for herbal preparations is growing in an exponential manner. India has a rich treasure of medicinal plants and can become the main source for supply of herbal drugs to the whole world but lack of or inadequate quality standards of raw material has been one of the major impediments in wider acceptance of Indian herbal drugs. Various international agencies like World Health Organization have been emphasizing the importance and need of standardization of herbal raw materials. Skilled technical manpower possessing the knowledge on all aspects of medicinal plants is needed for this. Sensing its urgency, an effort was made to fulfill this requirement by establishing two institutes- namely Institute for Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences (IAPS) and Institute for Ayurvedic Medicinal Plant Sciences (IAMPS) in the year 1999-2000.  The former offers D.Pharm (Ayu), B.Pharm (Ayu) and M.Pharm (Ayu); M.Sc. (Medicinal plants) degree was offered by IAMPS till 2005.

In conformity with the convention that IPGT and RA should be the only agency to impart PG education in the University - PG courses offered by IAPS and IAMPS were transferred to IPGT and RA. To take care of this necessity PGT-Self Finance Course Cell was established in 2006. M. Pharm (Ayu) course was merged with the Department of RSBK and IAMPS was merged with Department of Dravyaguna of IPGT and RA to take up the responsibility of offering M.Sc (Medicinal Plants) course.

Some of our alumni’s have joined research institutes as research Associates, while many others have joined reputed Ayurvedic Industries of India. It is gratifying to note that the courses have been recognized by various, well-known government organizations like ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) CCRAS (Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha) etc. for their fellowship award and staff recruitment.

General Information

Application: Eligible candidates may apply by giving the detailed bio-data in specific format attached to this brochure.  Please attach the English translation of attested copies of certificates. Foreigners have to complete all passport and visa requirements before leaving their country.  Please proceed to India only after getting admission letter from this University and subsequently obtaining study Visa.  The University will not take any responsibility in this regard.

Information common to both the courses:

Admission Criteria: Academic record and interview for B & C.

Venue        :  All the courses will be conducted in the campus of Gujarat Ayurved University,

                  Jamnagar.

Hostel facility:  Foreign Students will be provided accommodation in International Scholars Hostel. At present there is no hostel facility for candidates from India.

Boarding:    Students have to make their own arrangement.

Registration Fee                    : Rs. 200 for Indian students

                                              US $ 100 (for foreign students)

Hostel Fee                             : 50 US $ per month (International Hostel)

One spouse may be allowed in the room on extra       payment of 25 US $ per month. (For foreign students only).  20 US $ per month (P.G. Boys Hostel - single seated)

EXAMINATION FEE:

        Following examination fees will be charged for various courses.

Final degree certificates will be issued by the University on payment of fee as per University rules.

All payments should be made by Demand Draft /Bank Payment Order drawn in favour of Director, I.P.G.T. &R.A. and Jamnagar, India.

For foreign students, except from Nepal, all payments should be made only in American Dollars by Demand Draft/Bank payment order. No cash will be accepted.  Our bankers are Bank of India, Hospital Road Branch, and Jamnagar, India.

Ph.D. registration on limited basis is available for the candidates of both Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences and Ayurvedic Medicinal Plant streams. Full details can be obtained on request.
